Celebrating 100 Years of Hospitality & the Route 66 Centennial

PRC FLY FISHING greens browns"A Century of Memories on the Pecos River and along America's Mother Road." Step back in time and celebrate a remarkable milestone as Pecos River Cabins marks its 100th year of welcoming travelers to the enchanting banks of the Pecos River. In 2026, we're not just celebrating our own centennial—we're also honoring the 100th anniversary of America's legendary Route 66, the Mother Road that has carried dreamers, adventurers, and families through the heart of our great nation for an entire century.

Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of Northern New Mexico, where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains meet the high desert plains, Pecos River Cabins has been a sanctuary of tranquility and natural beauty since the 1920s. Our rustic cabins, seven of which still stand as testament to a bygone era, have welcomed guests who arrived by horseback, horse-drawn wagons, Model T Fords, and Model A automobiles. Today, modern travelers continue to discover the same magic that captivated visitors a century ago—the gentle murmur of the Pecos River, the whisper of cottonwood leaves in the breeze, and the profound peace that comes from disconnecting from the modern world and reconnecting with nature's timeless rhythms.

The year 2026 represents a unique convergence of history and celebration. As Route 66 marks its centennial anniversary, travelers from around the world are planning once-in-a-lifetime journeys along America's most storied highway. The Mother Road, which winds through our beautiful state for 535 miles, passes through landscapes both austere and sublime—red-hued cliffs dropping into immense llanos, pine-wooded hills and valleys, and historic adobe villages where spiritual and physical hearts center around churches that predate Route 66.

Our contest celebrates not just the passage of time, but the enduring appeal of authentic experiences in an increasingly digital world. Pecos River Cabins offers what Route 66 travelers have always sought: the seclusion of the country, the charm of a traditional New Mexican village, the adventure of the pristine Pecos Wilderness, and the sophistication and culture of nearby Santa Fe. Here, where mature cottonwood trees shade flower gardens and grassy lawns, where character rocks tell stories of geological ages, guests find themselves transported to a quieter time and place.

A Gateway to Northern New Mexico's Treasures

* From our central location on the eastern bank of the Pecos River, guests discover themselves perfectly positioned to explore the diverse wonders of Northern New Mexico: Santa Fe, with its world-renowned art galleries, historic plaza, and distinctive Pueblo architecture, lies just 24 miles away.

* The vibrant city of Las Vegas, New Mexico, with its Victorian-era charm and rich railroad history, beckons 45 miles to the east.

* The artistic haven of Taos, nestled beneath the towering Sangre de Cristo peaks, awaits 90 miles to the north.

PRC Snowy Pine Deep Winter* The cultural metropolis of Albuquerque spreads across the high desert 70 miles to the south. Yet many of our guests find that the greatest treasures lie right here on our property and in the immediate surroundings.

* The Pecos Wilderness, covering an impressive 223,667 acres and ranking as New Mexico's second-largest wilderness area, begins just 12 miles from our cabins. This protected sanctuary within the Santa Fe National Forest and Carson National Forest encompasses the southernmost extension of the Rocky Mountains, offering hiking trails that wind through pristine forests, alpine meadows, and crystal-clear mountain lakes and streams.

* Just three miles away, the Pecos National Historic Park preserves the ruins of ancient Pueblo communities and a Spanish colonial mission, telling the story of cultural convergence that has defined this region for centuries. The Village of Pecos itself offers restaurants serving authentic New Mexican cuisine, a U.S. Forestry Service Visitor's Center with maps and guidance for wilderness adventures, and other amenities that serve both locals and the steady stream of travelers who have been drawn to this special place for generations.

The activities that bring joy to our guests today mirror those that delighted visitors in the 1920s, 1930s, and beyond. Then, as now, people come to cast a line into the Pecos River's sparkling clear waters, where native trout rise to carefully presented flies. Guests come to hike trails that wind through forests of Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, blue Spruce and Aspen, where wildlife sightings often include elk, deer, black bear, and an incredible diversity of bird species that make this region a premier birding destination.

Our guests find profound satisfaction in simply sitting on their cabin's deck or patio, watching the river flow by while reading a good book or engaging in conversation with loved ones. They discover the magic of stargazing in our high desert location, where light pollution is minimal and the Milky Way stretches across the sky in all its glory. They experience the meditative quality of listening to the river's constant murmur, a sound that has provided the soundtrack for countless peaceful nights and reflective mornings.
